Over the nine days from Nov. 24
to Dec. 2,2005, Yamaha Motor Company's Overseas Market Development Operations
(OMDO) and one of our sales partners in the African market, CFAO, organized
the"DABAOUA Touring Raid", a tour run on three Yamaha YBR125 motorcycles
and covering a 2,500-km course connecting the capitals of the three countries
of Senegal, Mali and Burkina Faso. Of the three machines, one was ridden
by a relay of riders from each of the three countries. The other two bikes
were ridden by staff members from Yamaha and CFAO, and all three YBR125s
completed the full course of the touring raid with no machine trouble. This
is a report of the "DABAOUA Touring Raid".
The event name "DABAOUA" takes the DA from the Senegal
capital of Dakar, the BA from the Mali capital, Bamako and the OUA from the
Burkina Faso capital, Ouagadougou, and by running the seven stages with completely
stock YBR125s, the event sought to
- Verify the running performance and reliability of the YBR125,
- Introduce the YBR125 to the customers and listen to their needs,
- Promote exchange with people along the route.
The YBR125 is presently the biggest selling Yamaha motorcycle
model in the world. Production of the Yamaha YBR125 began in Brazil in March
of 2000. This was followed by the start of production in China in Nov. 2002
and India in May 2004. Despite some difference in specifications in these three
countries, total production of the same basic model has reached 830,000 units
that have been supplied to 40 countries worldwide. The YBR125 machines used
for the DABAOUA Touring Raid this time were manufactured in China at Chongquing
