Doni's Challenge - Motorcycle Race

This team was launched by Yamaha Motor Indonesia to bring a new form of Kando(*1) to the people of Indonesia with an effort to achieve true world-class racing capability. So far, these efforts have included successful spot entries in the 2005 and 2006 Malaysia round of the GP125 class of the MotoGP. As the next step in the team’s efforts to achieve world class, they are now competing in the GP250 class of the All Japan Road Race Championships using the TZ250.
Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. is actively promoting the spread of motorcycle sports in the ASEAN region through programs like the YAMAHA ASEAN CUP (*2), which aims to raise the skills of the riders as well as those of racing team managers, mechanics and staff. The all-Indonesian team Yamaha Indonesia Racing Team can be seen as one of the symbols of these efforts by Yamaha over the years to promote motor sports in the region.

Doni Tata Pradita was born in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, on Jan. 21, 1990 (17 years old). Starring in underbone(*3) motorcycle race in Indonesia from an early age, Doni won two consecutive victories (2003, 2004) in the Novice Class of Yamaha’s regional underbone race championship, the YAMAHA ASEAN CUP. In 2007 he is competing in the GP250 class of the All Japan Road Race Championships and the expectations of his many fans in Indonesia ride with him.

(*1) Kando is a Japanese word for the simultaneous feeling of deep satisfaction and intense excitement that people experience when they encounter something of exceptional value.

(*2) This is an international one-make race for 4-stroke sporty mopeds organized jointly by Yamaha Motor (YMC) and its distributors in the ASEAN region from 2003. Riders from the ASEAN countries who have qualified in their own national championship series gather once a year to compete in this race for the title of Yamaha ASEAN champion. The first and fourth Yamaha ASEAN Cups were held in Indonesia, the second one in Malaysia and the third was held in Thailand. The fifth ASEAN Cup will be held from Dec. 14 – 16, 2007. Fifty riders will compete, representing the five ASEAN countries of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.

(*3) Underbone type mopeds (called this because of the “underbone” frame used on utility use models like the Yamaha Mate) are popular as a city-use bike in Southeast Asia and one-make races for these models are popularly held all around these countries. Yamaha has been holding one-make championship race series here continuously since the 1980s. Recently, these races use primarily the sporty 4-stroke moped Yamaha “T135.”
