The YBR125 Tianjian is built by one of Yamaha's Chinese manufacturing bases, Chongqing Jianshe Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (CJYM) located in the industrial city of Chongqing along the banks of the mighty Chang Jiang River in central China. After its sensational debut at the Guangzhou Motor Show in 2002, the YBR125 Tianjian went on sale in China in 2003. It is a light and spirited sports model mounting an air-cooled 4-stroke SOHC 123cc engine on a high-rigidity steel diamond-type frame.
Its enjoyable performance and comfortable ride in around-town riding, as well as its ease of use and convenience, not to mention its good cost performance, have made this model a new standard in the 125cc class. Boasting more than 200,000 unit sales in China, the YBR125 continues to win new users.
Developed around the concept of a "125cc commuter with the best balance of features to fit the Chinese traffic environment," the YBR125 Tianjian incorporates the latest technologies throughout its design along with Yamaha know-how gained from the world of racing, aerodynamic design and styling to fit the image of a next-generation 125cc model.

The features of this model include:

  1)

Emission performance that clears Chinese regulations (equivalent to EU-1)

  2)

Engine character designed for ease of use in the most frequently used speed range

  3)

A balancer to reduce vibration

  4)

A high-rigidity frame to bring out solid running performance

  5)

Long wheelbase for stable running performance

  6)

Optimized front-end design for natural handling feeling

  7)

A suspension designed to handle rough road conditions

  8)

A long seat for enjoyable tandem riding

  9)

Body design

  10)

Outstanding operability and serviceability

Among these features, the added riding pleasure and comfort afforded by the engine balancer has made this model particularly popular in the Chinese market.

After it was exhibited at the 4th Intermot Show in Germany in 2004, attention came to focus on the YBR125 for the first time in Europe and this led to the start of import sales in 2005. Now made-in-China Yamaha motorcycles will be seen on the streets of Europe for the first time. On March 1st of 2005 a ceremony was held to celebrate the first European export models of the YBR125 coming off the assembly line at Chongqing Jianshe Yamaha Motor. Plans call for 40,000 units of the YBR125 to be shipped to Europe annually. And the model's popularity has led to plans for export to other markets outside Europe as well.

The roots of the YBR125 Tianjian actually lie in Brazil. Since March of the year 2000, Yamaha's manufacturing base in the Manaus in the Amazon region of Brazil, Yamaha Motor da Amazonia (YMDA) has been manufacturing a model with the same YBR125 name. In the first two years after it debuted as the first Yamaha 4-stroke model in the 125cc class in South America, the YBR125 sparked a doubling of Yamaha's market share in Brazil by 2002. It was also the driving force behind a growth in the overall motorcycle production of the parent company Yamaha Motor do Brasil (YMDB) from 30,000 units in 1999 to 100,000 in 2002. The model is said to be especially popular among commercial users who ride between 50,000 and 100,000 km a year. From Brazil, this model is exported to the neighboring countries of Peru, Ecuador and Venezuela. It is also shipped in knocked down form to Yamaha factories in Mexico and Colombia. The YBR125 Tianjian is a model that was born from this success and know-how from the Brazilian market and tailored to fit the unique needs of Chinese market use and traffic environment.
