One of the characteristics of the Chomolungma - Urumqi Touring Raid this time is that the riders were chosen from the general public in China. Since the YBR125 Tianjian being used in this project was launched in the Chinese market in 2003, it has been attracting riders with its affordable price and reliability and has recorded sales of more than two hundred thousand units per year in the domestic market. In selecting riders willing to take on the challenge of the difficult route in the vast wilderness that this touring raid will cover on made-in-China YBR125 Tianjian, we sought riders who trust Yamaha products and share the spirit of challenge that the company stands for.
From a number of applications, the following six riders have been selected. They are all different in age, place of birth, occupation and personal background, but they all love motorcycles and nature and are eager to accept the challenge of teaming up together with the Yamaha support staff from China and Japan, and take on the challenges of nature in often harsh environments.

Huang Yan Dong

I want to make the most of this chance Yamaha has given me and make it all the way to Urumqi, I think I'm ready in body and spirit. I can't wait to get started.

Song Guang Jie
Date of Birth: Oct. 5, 1964 (Age 41)
  Home: Xinjiang Province, China
  Riding Experience: 16 years

I've heard that it's a tough course but I'm anxious to take on the challenge and finish the whole tour. Besides making it myself, I also want to work together with everyone to make sure the whole team succeeds.

Bai Hua Shun
Date of Birth: May 3, 1971 (Age 34)
  Home: Yunnan Province, China
  Riding Experience: 8 years

When I arrived in Lhasa, I didn't feel very good. But now I'm getting adjusted. I'm a bit worried about how I will feel at elevations over 5,000 m, but I am also excited by the challenge. I really want to complete the whole tour.

Liang Zhong Tao
Date of Birth: May 24, 1971 (Age 34)
  Home: Shandong Province, China
  Riding Experience: 16 years

We are going to be crossing passes at elevations over 5,000 m, and there are sure to be other unexpected challenges along the way. I want to work together so that we can all finish the course.

Zhang Xiao Dong
Date of Birth: June 5, 1964 (Age 41)
  Home: Jiangxi Province, China
  Riding Experience: 12 years

For a motorcycle lover, nothing can beat the feeling on being one with your bike in the great outdoors. Western China has lots of beautiful natural environments that I am really looking forward to seeing. This touring raid is a good chance for us, Chinese riders to promote our techniques.

Xu Zi Qiang
Date of Birth: Feb. 22, 1982 (Age 23)
  Home: City of Chongqing, China
  Riding Experience: 7 years

I have been looking forward to this challenge ever since the first Chomolungma raid was held two years ago. I am really grateful for the chance to participate in this touring raid. I hope this will be an opportunity for me to boost my own potential as well as being part of the Yamaha spirit of challenge. The part of the course I am looking forward to the most is the Tanggula Mountains.
